PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Presentations and workshops can be developed for adults who have an interest in, who are studying, or who are working in fields related to children's play, including:

• Education
• Community Development
• Health
• Landscape and playground design
• Multicultural programs
• Refugee programs
• Cultural and heritage organisations
• After-school care & holiday programs

The Powerpoint presentations explore and discuss a wide range of issues relating to play and traditional games, supported by images of contemporary children's play. The topics are usually set after discussion to determine if there are any particular subjects to be included.

The workshops offer 'hands-on' opportunities to learn about some children's traditional games from different countries and cultures, or to rediscover favourite childhood games.

Examples of past Professional Development programs:

• Talk about the relationship between play and place to students in the Children in their Environments Unit at LaTrobe University, Bendigo campus
• Workshop for volunteers working in the Childhood: growing up in Bendigo exhibition at the Bendigo Post Office Gallery
• Professional development session for staff at Urban Initiatives Landscape Architects, Melbourne
• 'One Potato, Two Potato' – presentation about children's rhymes, chants and other verbal lore to visiting US Children's Literature group
• Workshop for bilingual workers at the Multicultural Resources Centre, Richmond
• Familiarisation program for children and families of volunteers working overseas with Australian Volunteers International
